In October 2024, Meta's CTO Andrew Bosworth publicly apologized to Palmer Luckey — the founder Facebook fired in 2017 over a $10,000 political donation. Luckey's reply: "Apology accepted. I am infamously good at holding grudges, but Meta has changed a lot over the past 8 years. At some point, the Ship of Theseus has sailed." Seven months later they signed a deal: Meta and Anduril now build military headsets together — using, in Luckey's words, everything he made before Meta bought Oculus, everything they made together, and everything he built after he was fired. In 2018, 4,000 Google employees signed a petition against building AI for the Pentagon. Seven years later, Bosworth was commissioned into the Army Reserve as a lieutenant colonel. That question never got settled — it just stopped being disqualifying.
