What Elon Musk's $75 Billion Is Really For | Part 4
Business Onion · Part 4 - The Next Bet · 2:50
SpaceX just raised about $75 billion in the biggest stock-market debut the world has ever seen — and Elon Musk isn't planning to spend it on rockets. Part 4 — the finale of THE COMPANY THAT SHOULD HAVE DIED. Three things have finally come together: cheap reusable rockets, the Starlink network wrapped around the planet, and a newly-merged AI company. Musk wants to combine all three and move the world's computers off the planet — SpaceX has already asked regulators for permission to launch up to a million satellites as data centers in orbit, where solar power is stronger and the cold of space cools the machines for free. And that's only the beginning. The dream has always been Mars — but in Feb 2026 Musk flipped the order: the Moon comes first. It's days away instead of months, so SpaceX now aims to build a self-growing city on the Moon within ten years — a proving ground for everything Mars will need. Thousands of Starships, a million people, Tesla's Optimus robots doing the heavy work, with NASA's first crewed Starship landing targeted for ~2028. It's the same bet he made in 2008, when this company had money for a single launch and the world expected it to fail. Only now the bet is whether humanity becomes more than a single planet's worth of people. ▶ Watch the full series: Part 1 — One Last Launch
