The slave boy who became Genghis Khan | WHAT STOPPED THE MONGOLS? Part 1

History Onion · Part 1 · 2:58

He wore a slave's collar before he wore a crown. Around 1162, a boy named Temujin was born on the Mongolian steppe — poisoned father, abandoned family, a wife carried off by raiders. Then he did the one thing no steppe chief did: he gave command to men who had proved loyal, whatever family they were born into. Herders started leaving their own chiefs to serve him. By 1206 he was Genghis Khan. Part 1 of the story of the empire nothing could stop — except itself. A note on names: we use the familiar English spellings (Genghis Khan; in Mongolian, Chinggis Khaan; Börte; Jochi). Some scenes are cinematic reconstructions of documented events. All quotes, dates, and sources are historically verified. #history #mongols #genghiskhan #historyshorts #documentary
