The Islands Where Sheep Outnumber People
Travel Onion · 1:51
In the wild North Atlantic between Iceland and Norway, the Faroe Islands have about 80,000 sheep and only 50,000 people — the name literally means "the Sheep Islands." Múlafossur waterfall falls 100 feet straight into the ocean, the lake Sørvágsvatn looks like it floats above the sea, and when Google never came to film Street View, locals strapped cameras to their sheep and did it themselves. There's even a roundabout under the ocean. Save this for your list. Follow for more places worth the trip. 📍 PLAN YOUR VISIT — FAROE ISLANDS ✈️ Getting there: fly to Vágar (FAE) from Copenhagen / Edinburgh / Reykjavík (~2h), then rent a car 📅 Best time: May–Sept (long days, puffins); pack for rain & wind any season 🎯 Don't miss: Múlafossur waterfall (Gásadalur) · the Trælanípa "floating lake" hike · Gjógv village · the Eysturoy undersea roundabout
