The World's Largest Mirror
Travel Onion · 2:07
In the Andes of Bolivia, the Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flat on Earth — over 10,000 km² of blinding white salt. In the wet season a thin layer of water turns it into the world's biggest mirror, and the horizon disappears. It's so flat (under a metre of variation) that space agencies use it to calibrate satellites, it hides one of the largest lithium reserves on Earth, three kinds of flamingos breed here, and you can sleep in a hotel built entirely of salt. Save this for your list. Follow for more places worth the trip. 📍 PLAN YOUR VISIT — SALAR DE UYUNI ✈️ Getting there: fly to Uyuni (UYU) from La Paz (~1h), then join a tour from Uyuni 📅 Best time: wet season (Jan–Mar) for the mirror; dry season (May–Nov) for the white desert 🎯 Don't miss: a sunrise mirror tour · Incahuasi cactus island · the Train Graveyard · a salt-block hotel
